Welcome to Samantha Chater Therapy.  

I’m Samantha Chater, a counsellor in Sale and offer face-to-face sessions in Carrington (M31), Sale (M33), Altrincham (WA14), as well as walk-and-talk sessions. in the Trafford and Manchester area.  I also work online, by telephone, and can arrange home visits when needed.

However we meet, you’ll find a calm, understanding space where you don’t have to keep everything together. A space where you can talk openly, breathe, and begin to feel more like yourself again.

If life no longer feels familiar, you’re in the right place. I support adults in midlife who feel caught between who they used to be and who they’re becoming. Many are navigating changes that leave them feeling lost, restless, or unsure of themselves.

For some, these feelings are tangled up with earlier experiences, including childhood trauma, long-standing people-pleasing, or coping mechanisms that once helped them get through difficult times, things like staying busy, keeping the peace, shutting down feelings, always putting others first, or relying on alcohol to take the edge off. These ways of coping can work for a while, but over time they often leave people drained, disconnected, or stuck.

How counselling can help

My role isn’t to judge or tell you what to do. I’m here to help you slow everything down, make sense of what’s going on underneath, and understand why you respond the way you do. Together, we can untangle old patterns, soften the noise of self-doubt, and explore what you need now, not what was expected of you in the past.

You’ll have space to talk things through, understand your feelings, reconnect with who you are, and start making choices that actually fit your life today. And if it’s helpful, we can weave in hypnotherapy to support anxiety, confidence, overwhelm or long-standing habits.

For those carrying the weight of past childhood experiences and traumas, we can gently explore how these early moments shaped the way you learnt to cope, protect yourself, or keep the peace. Healing doesn’t mean reliving everything, it’s about understanding your story, easing old emotional wounds, and finding a steadier, kinder way forward.

Over time, many clients tell me they feel lighter, clearer, and more grounded. They notice they’re not second-guessing themselves as much. They feel more able to speak up, set boundaries, and make decisions that feel right for them. Some describe feeling “more like myself again,” while others say they feel calmer, more hopeful, and less tangled up in old habits or worries.

You don’t have to keep managing all of this on your own. Change begins with feeling safe enough to talk, and you’re welcome to start here, in your own time.

Trauma & Inner Child Healing

When old wounds still shape how you feel today. Together, we’ll gently explore where those feelings come from, begin to heal what you’ve been carrying for too long, and help you feel safer and more at ease within yourself.

Relationship Issues

When communication breaks down, boundaries blur, or you keep repeating patterns that leave you feeling unseen or disconnected. We’ll look at what’s really going on underneath and help you build healthier, more balanced ways of relating with others and with yourself.

Low Self-Worth & People Pleasing

Always putting yourself last, feeling invisible, or never quite “good enough.” We’ll work on helping you feel more grounded, valued, and able to set boundaries without guilt.
